Interview: Peru
On April 23rd 2008, Milly Hoi sat and talked with our group: Willie W., Keyvin D., Jocelyn R., Nicole W. and De’Vaughn S. about living in Peru. In Peru there are multiple conflicts. There are different type of groups like education, women’s issues, health, religion, and ethnic groups. The interview took place at ISA in room 209 at 2:30pm. Milly Hoi currently attends ISA High School.
“Is education fair for everybody?” Willie asked. Milly responded, “No... it’s not fair; you only get education if your parents have money... education cost around $200-500.” Milly was saying in other words that education is not that fair for everyone. The people have to have money to go to school. Education is expensive. In the United States people try to make it fair but it’s not because they care more about private school than public schools. Next Willie asked, “Are school controlled or independent?” “Public school are controlled by the government, they really don’t do much for them… private schools are controlled by the rich people.” Milly responded. Public schools are not independent, they are controlled by the government and they do mot do enough for them. Private schools are controlled by the people with money. It is similar to the United States but the only difference is that the schools out here are controlled by School Districts.
Afterwards Willie asked, “Do you have to be rich to go to a good school?” “Yea… your parents have to make… about… $500 but you don’t make that much…” Milly said. In other you have to be rich to go to school in Peru. Your parents have to make $500 or more but people do not make that much with the jobs out there. It’s not like that at all; you do not have to be rich to go to a public school. You have make $5,000 a month to go to a private school.
“What kinds of problems are more popular out in Peru?” Jocelyn asked. “In Peru… it is nutrition because most people are poor so they don’t sanitary… not very clean… and don’t clean their food well.” Milly responded. In Peru the most popular problems are nutrition because most people do not have money and their cleaning conditions with their food. The most popular problem in the United States is the STD’s in our youth. “What kind of jobs do they have in Peru? Do they make enough money to feed their family?” Jocelyn asked. “If you go to a private school you can get any job but if you go to a public school you might become a waitress…” in other words if you go to a good school like a private school to have a good job but if you go to a public school you are not going to be able to have a good job or should I say a good paying job. To get a good paying in the United States you have to go to college.
